You can't keep a good Crystal Skull down...
The boyfriend and I went to see Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull last night.
Overall, I enjoyed myself immensely. It was like having an old friend come to visit after many years away.
I can still remember standing in line outside the Fox theater in Austin, TX as a child waiting to see Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.
So, if you're a fan of Indiana Jones...rest easy...you shouldn't be disappointed in the latest adventure of Dr. Jones.
The positives:
- Harrison Ford is in prime shape. He hasn't looked this good in years...
- They aren't pretending that Indiana Jones is still in his thirties...fighting the Nazis.
- They resisted the temptation to make Indy a washed up has been...*cough* Rocky Balboa *cough*
- They've moved the time frame forward and done a nice job filling in a bit of the history of Indiana Jones.
- The score by John Williams is top notch...and the Raiders March makes appearances at all the right moments. If you listen carefully, you'll even catch a few riffs from The Last Crusade and Raiders of the Lost Ark. I'm not familiar enough with the score to Temple of Doom...so I don't know if we heard any of those themes.
- Spielberg is at the top of his game...the chase/fight sequences are thrilling!
- There is a great moment/acknowledgment of Sean Connery as Indy's father...too bad he couldn't make the ride this time. (Although the time frame of 1957 would have been problematic if they'd added him...he was old in The Last Crusade...)
- Keep your eyes peeled for a few visual nods to previous chapters in the saga...
- Karen Allen hasn't aged nearly as well as Harrison Ford. Which is sad. I remember seeing her relatively recently in The Perfect Storm and thought she looked great. I might be biased, though, since we have a framed lobby print of her from Raiders of the Lost Ark in our apartment...
- What happened to poor Short Round? I guess he's running an orphanage in India for all those kids they saved in Temple of Doom.
- I thought the part of the film that works least is the idea of trying to tie up the Indiana Jones/Marion Ravenwood relationship. In my mind...Indiana Jones is like James Bond...a new woman in every film.

100 things...
I was inspired by Strange Relationship (awesome blog...and a great blogger!) to write my own list of 100 things you probably don't know about me.
I'll update it as I write things...keeping a link on the right hand column.
- I was born the year that Elvis died.
- Riding in elevators with people I don't know makes me very uncomfortable. I don't mind being in an elevator with people I do know...I just get edgy when the strangers pile in.
- I came out when I was 27.
- I've never slept with a woman. (If you've done your math...that means I was a 27 year old virgin. My sex life may have been dull...but I am the best Ms. Pac-Man player you'll ever meet.)
- My absolute favorite film is American Beauty. Whenever I am feeling down or off track...I can watch it and feel like life has begun anew.
- I own a replica of the 'bolt' from Chi Chi Larue's film Bolt.
- I've never tried to stick the bolt up my own ass.
- I have six or seven tattoos...depending on how one would classify the left shoulder which is made up of two.
- I have two nipple piercings. I used to have a prince albert piercing...but I was the victim of a tragic accident involving my boyfriend's guiche. I also had my ears pierced at one point...but I've given those up a long time ago.
- Dave Matthews Band is my absolute favorite band. (July 22 in Omaha, Baby!)
- Battlestar Galactica is my current television obsession.
- I have no idea what the deal is with Lost. Are they on the island? Yes? No? Who cares?
- I've been to Antarctica and back. I recommend it to anyone who has the time, money, and means. You'll never look at our planet the same way once you've been down to the Ross Sea.
- My first dog was named Bonnie...and I named her after the woman on Knight Rider who helped fix/repair Kitt.
- I don't get American Idol. I know...I know. I'm a troglodyte. (But I do love me some Daughtry.)
- I don't get Sex in the City. I know...I know. I'm a gay troglodyte.
- While we're at it...I don't get any show on TLC. I think those two on What Not To Wear are examples of what is wrong with humanity. That bitch has no room to talk about people looking awful.
- I owned a Sega Master System as a young person. I missed out on the NES trend.
- I collected baseball cards when I was a child.
- I collected comic books when I was a teenager.
- My favorite video game is Bioshock.
- My least favorite major city that I've visited is Chicago.
- My favorite major city is San Francisco.
- My least favorite town that I've visited is Wolf Point, Montana.
- I enjoy frosted mini-wheats for breakfast.
Gym...
I'm sitting here procrastinating...
I need to go to the gym...
Unfortunately...nothing like the picture below happens at MY gym...
My YMCA is full of kindly older people who chit chat with each other while they slowly amble along on a treadmill set to 1.4 miles per hour.
